The RD8 Engineering Academy Design For Cost Path consists of 2 courses - Essential and Core. If you complete both Essential and Core, you will get a Robust Design Certification.
Aditionally, we offer a company specific session where we analyse your design.

Essential

Understand the Robust Design Principles and learn to apply basic principles of Kinematic design.

Core

Learn to analyse products and evaluate mechanical designs withthe RD8 Framework.

Apply

For companies with multiple participants we offer a seventh session where we analyse one of your designs.

Learn to avoid design mistakes made by 500 mechanical engineers and get help from software automatically detecting design issues

Typical participants are engineers involved in the product development process from concept over design and industrialization to manufacturing and assembly.

Essential

This essential introductory course establishes a strong foundation in Robust Design, preparing learners for advanced methodologies within a structured three-step learning journey.
It introduces the RD8 Robust Design Framework and demonstrates how fundamental principles of kinematic design support reliable and efficient product architectures.

Participants gain insight into the core disciplines of Robust Design, learning how to analyze interfaces, product functions, and sensitivity to design variations. The course emphasizes objective evaluation of design quality and robustness using data-driven methods supported by the RD8 Robust Design Platform.
By the end, learners are equipped to prioritize and organize development activities with a clear focus on mechanical efficiency, reliability, and informed decision-making.

Core

This core intermediate course builds on foundational knowledge to strengthen design robustness through deeper mechanical analysis.

Learners apply the full Robust Design workflow, from defining the ideal concept to detailed verification, while managing increased system complexity. The course places strong emphasis on kinematics, constraints, and special kinematic elements to improve mechanical performance across different product states.

Participants use the RD8 Product Development Platform to identify, prioritize, and resolve critical robustness issues based on the four types of potential problems.
By advancing into detailed design analysis, learners develop flexible and predictable functional features that significantly enhance product adaptability and reliability.
